Anthropic says small AI models may be months away from copying themselves across everyday devices.

Its Frontier Red Team found models of 30B parameters or less can already handle many replication steps on IoT gear like off-brand Android TV boxes and smart ovens. In a simplified test, GLM-5.2 spread to all 8 nodes in 4 of 5 trials. Anthropic expects small models to hit that level by the end of 2026, and warns a replicator like this would be hard to shut down.
